Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)

General information regarding Alternative Dispute Resolution for Consumers

Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) includes mediation, conciliation, and arbitration.
ADR entities are those authorized to mediate, conciliate, and arbitrate consumer disputes in Portugal, and must be listed in the register of ADR entities as per Law No. 144/2015.

Published on September 8th, Law 144/2015 approved the new legal framework for alternative (out-of-court) consumer dispute resolution mechanisms, creating the Consumer Arbitration Network in Portugal and establishing an information duty for companies supplying goods or providing services regarding the existence of Alternative Dispute Resolution Centers applicable to the sector in which the companies operate.

Consumers should always first contact the supplier of the good or service provider to try to resolve the issue.
